We don’t usually cover venues that far from the sacred Stoke Newington borders but in this case we’ll make an exception, especially because there’s such an awesome Stokey connection…

The King's Cross Social Club
My friends, Stokey locals Helen and Hugh, have recently opened a brand new bar in King’s Cross where once famous gay pub The Golden Lion used to be. Just a short walk from the old Thameslink station, past the Big Chill House, you will find a cozy boozer that might remind you of some of your Stoke Newington favourites.
You see, Hugh is part of the team that did the Birdcage, Three Crowns and Londesborough in Stokey, and the Talbot and Spurstowe in Dalston. So it’s no surprise to find that the King’s Cross Social Club has inherited some of what has made these places great.

There are great cocktails on offer, basic but lovely food platters, a cozy bric-a-brac interior and a lovely function room on the first floor. The DJ line-up is showing great promise as well, offering warm-up sets that later continue at places like Egg.
This Wednesday, 16 September, you can catch the official launch party. And if you print out the invitation you can even bag yourselves a free cocktail.

Think I’m raving a bit too much? Hey, I’m excited, deal with it. And in the end you’ll have to make up your own mind anyway… might as well do it over a free cocktail.
