Behind Closed Doors

A nation fixated by recession has sparked an ingenious and entertaining idea for a new theatrical performance on how it is affecting our lives in different ways.

A collaboration of authors, journalists and playwrights have created six short plays on how the current economic crisis and the hype surrounding it, is impacting on the private lives of individuals and their personal relationships.

Set in the apartments of the characters involved, ‘Behind Closed Doors’, is the latest show by up and coming London theatre group 11:11 Productions.

There is an awful lot more to “The Recession” than recession,” says producer Mattie Crowley.

Hardship, austerity and lost opportunity are the watchwords of 2012, but the truth is, people’s fortunes and how they deal with them are as different today as they have ever been.”

He has purposely invited a diverse group of writers to capture the idea of how the current economic climate can mean totally different things to different people.

Amongst them are business guru David Taylor, author of the best selling Naked Leader books, journalist and media commentator Shyama Perera, playwright Annie Lycett, who works with The Prince’s Trust and new writers from the Old Vic New Voices and the Royal Court writing programs.

With a great mixture of comedy and drama, some of London’s top emerging theatre talent will offer a poignant, topical and touching night that everyone will relate to,” says Crowley.

Behind Closed Doors opens above the Lion Pub, Church Street, Stoke Newington on 28th Feb and runs every Tuesday and Wednesday for 3 weeks.

All performances start at 7.45pm.

Tickets are £6 each.
