[Review by BenB] Caff by day, restaurant at night. I’ve only had brekky here, so I can only comment on that, it was a perfect English breakfast though. Big, thick bits of bacon, lovely sausage and a perfectly crispy hash brown, nice and runny egg, finished off with a big portion of fried mushrooms. I could find no fault in it at all. My friend went for a Mediterranean breakfast, a healthy concoction featuring Holumi, salad, olives and the like, which was apparently very good too.
Décor was pretty Turkish and there were a couple of paintings of quite unattractive nudey ladies on the wall.
My high point was hearing a Balalaika based version of “It’s Raining Men”.
The atmosphere was pretty relaxed and a couple of people had brought their laptops down there to do some work including a local TV comedian. I won’t mention his name, not because I respect his privacy, just because he’s not that popular and you’ve probably never heard of him. The other reason is he once beat my team in a film pub quiz, that angered me and I don’t want to make him any more famous by mentioning him.

[Review by anne c] Opposite the Lion on Church Street, Lydia is a new(ish) café guarded by the fat plastic chef standing outside. They do great English breakfasts with the best herby mushrooms in Stokey. Or if you are in the mood for healthier fare they also do a selection of freshly squeezed juices and really wicked fruit milkshakes that are so thick they are almost a meal in itself. It is a very easy, laid back kind of place with mix-matched chairs and tables and is a good place to read the Sunday papers. My only gripe is that the Turkish owners haven’t quite grasped the importance of toast to a full English and either bring it out too early so that it’s finished by the time breakfast arrives or too late when it’s almost gone.

[Review by BenB] Considered by many to be the best of Stoke Newington’s kebab emporiums. Very tasty chilli sauce and they use flat bread, which is the favoured bread form of all ‘bab connoisseurs. They have a seating are in the back if you can’t wait to get home before scoffing.
Not something I do often, but it minimises the risk of waking up the next morning surrounded by salad and chucks of marinated lamb.

[Review by Tom] One of the best places in Stokey to grab a proper fry up anytime of the day. Portions are generous, sausages and coffee are better than average, and staff is good looking and lovely… what else could you ask for? I’d recommend trying the Turkish Menemen breakfasts (scrambled eggs with various ingredients in a metal pan) or the Turkish toast with Sucuklu, cheese and parsley. The only thing to avoid here are the Eggs Benedict. They use toast rather than muffin, and the Hollandaise is a cruel, crusty joke.
